Arts & Crafts

I have noticed that Germans like Danish design, arts & crafts, and I want to bring new, unique artists and designers and their creations to the German market, by selling on commision via a German webshop and likely a physical store as well.

Career

I completed a BA in Business Administration and later M.Sc. in Logistics at Aarhus School of Business, now a part of Aarhus University.

During my studies I had several smaller jobs as freelance consultant as well as in a startup. I also took the opportunity to study abroad for half a year at Oregon State University.

After graduating in 2007, I moved to Ringkøbing at the West Coast of Denmark, and started as BI-consultant at Vestas, the worlds’ largest manufacturer of Wind Turbines. I quickly became involved in more complex projects, and after a few years started in the newly founded Sourcing Excellence center in Vestas.

I learned a lot about persistency and stakeholder management during those years, as the task of aligning sourcing methods, processes and reporting between independent BUs proved very challenging.

Development of KPIs and associated reporting was a key responsibility of mine, and as the excellence centers were closed down, I was brought in to the finance function, where I continued the work on setting up detailed and actionable performance and spend reporting for the global sourcing organisation, as well as more core finance controlling tasks.

After 3 years in finance with focus on sourcing and procurement, I wanted to try something new, and move closer to the core value chain. There was an opportunity in Vestas global sourcing department, and I enjoyed the international supplier contact and the fact that you can measure your saving impact directly on the bottom line.

In Denmark it is quite common to change employer often, much more than in Germany. It is welcomed that you have experience from different companies and businesses.

In 2015 I was looking for new opportunities, and started a Purchase Manager in Verdo, a mid-sized danish utility company. The procurement portfolio was very broad, both direct and indirect procurement within several business areas. This included cables & eletrical parts, plumbing parts, parts for district heating and street light infrastructure, but also large contractors, facility management, IT, cleaning and consultancy services.

The task was to show saving result and built up a strategic sourcing organisation, as well as being the procurement responsible for running Verdos largest tender ever, according to the EU-directive on utility companies (2014/25/EU). It was a complete new framework for me, and I am quite proud that the tender was successfully completed without any help from external consultants – this is quite normal for these complicated procedures.

In 2018, my wife had a new opportunity in Hamburg within her company, and I was ready to take up the challenge to find a new opportunity in Germany. Even though it is only 2 hours drive from the border, there are cultural differences when it comes to work life.

I started at Senvion GmbH, a (now former) Wind Turbine manufacturer, with the responsibility of procuring rotor blades (composites) globally. This was yet another new commodity for me, but the sourcing toolbox is the same, and I enjoyed diving into the technologies and market conditions for rotor blades.

Unfortunately, in the beginning of 2019, Senvion GmbH went into deeper financial trouble, and negotiations with suppliers on payments were tough.

Finally in April 2019, Senvion went insolvent, and the service business part was separated out and sold to Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE), the worlds’ second largest Wind Turbine manufacture.

I was asked to get the procurement of IT in control as preparation for the acquisition, as well as taking in new diverse categories as SCADA infrastructure and Travel Management, on top of the rotor blades.

After a short while, I was asked to lead a small team of global strategic buyers, and take the responsibility of sourcing of glass- and carbon-fibres for SGREs rotor blade production worldwide.

In 2021, I decided to pursue something completely different, and started a small business (Skanheim) selling Danish Arts&Crafts online. The shop is still running, but only as a hobby.

In 2023, I returned to the wind business, joining RE Technologies GmbH in Hamburg, taking up the responsibility of sourcing all electrical components for the companys new, global 4 MW onshore turbine, being commissioned in 2025. It’s an exciting journey to be part of such project from the drawing table, to sourcing the large components such as gearboxes, generators, converters and many more, to finally see the turbine being installed and spinning!
